Bagan
Shwezigon
Shwezigon is the most prominent stupa in Bagan-Nyaung U and one of
the famous pagodas in Myanmar. This stupa is the high-point of Myanmar
stupa architecture and in well proportionate structure. Shwezigon is the
prototype and an ideal model of later stupas in Myanmar since it is
harmoniously elaborated by much of the essential features of a stupa.
There are so many interesting things and objects, just like the lithic-inscriptions,
stone-carvings, wood-carvings, bronze-casting and so on.
Sapada Stupa
Sapada is known for its unique architecture, it is a solid stupa
closely resembled to Thuparama stupa in Sri-lanka.
Kyaukku Umin
It is one of the popular caves and lied some two miles to the east of
Nyaung-U known as one of the four stone-buildings and for its excellent
stone-carvings.
Ananda
This temple should be regarded as the glory and impressive idol of
Bagan period bestowed upon its unique ground plan and excellent
decoration. The ground plan is second to none but in such a peculiar
design in excellent perfect Greek Cross. Ananda brick –monastery is a
small brick-building resting on a raised plat-form of about 4 feet
height. The interior-walls are fully covered with beautiful mural
paintings.
Manuha Temple
It is of one storey building in a square ground-plan with a porch
projection to the east. Nanpaya is eventually a brick building with
stone facing exterior. The temple is also set with stone perforated
windows on the walls and noted for it stone-carvings.
Nanpaya
Among the stone buildings in Bagan area, Nanpaya should be regarded
as the most strilcing carvings since the entire temple is completely
coverde with stone facing. Curiously, nop sing or symble of Buddhism
could be traced, but, excellent syone carvings of 4 headed Brahma-
fingures only could be enjoyed on the four stone pillars inside.
Regarding, its stone- carving, glaze-work, unique-ground –plan and
beautiful legendary always evoke the curiosity of every onlooker.
Nagayon Temple
The Nagayon temple has the main-building in square ground-plan with a
projecting hall facing to the north, with 5 stone perforated windows on
the massive walls.
Dhammarajika stupa
Dhammarajika has its own peculiarity together with the similarities
of earlier monuments. Interior –walls of these five lateral temples are
covered with mural paintings and ink-inscriptions of contemporary Bagan
period.
Payathonzu temple
Three distinct square buildings incorporate a triad temple by means
of narrow lateral passages leading from one building to another. The
Parathonzu temple is much more similar to the ground-plans of the East
Zegu temple and Shwenyaungbingon temple at Sri-kshetra Pyu city. The
mural paintings are covered entirely on the walls of eastern-most
temple, half on the central one. All the paintings are closely
resembling to Northern Indian style.
Nandamannya Temple
In comparison with the small size of the temple, the interior walls
of the temple, are completely covered with so impressive mural
paintings. We can not deny to the fact that there are Tantric paintings.
But, most of the paintings of Nandamannya are obviously representing
Theravada Buddhism.
Around Bagan
Mt. Popa
Regarding the oasis of the central dry zone, some 47 miles away from
Bagan, that extinct vocalno is isolated type covered with green forest
and a vast biodiversities resulting some Japan scholars have their
researches made recently for their respective degrees. Mt. Popa itself
is the centre and abode of Nat worship for centuries metaphered "The
Olympic of Greek" by foreign travellers on the other hand. Natural
springs, stone-bulls, butter-flies and birds should be enjoyed. Mt. Popa
park, the forest of herbal medicines, sandal-wood are knowledgeable
